Kazopp Managing Director, Graham Potts, travelled to Aberdeen last week for the SPE Offshore Europe 2015 Conference and Exhibition, held at the AECC. Here’s his account of his experience (as published first on LinkedIn)…

Travelling to Aberdeen straight off the back of a return from holiday might have been a bit of a shock to the old system this week (I’m getting too old for all this jet-setting!) but it was well worth it. Great to see some faces I haven’t seen in a while and have a few laughs – at times it was like being in the back row of the classroom again!

I’ve been to SPE Offshore Europe Conference and Exhibition a number of times, a great event for showcasing the latest products, engineering and technology in the oil and gas industries. And there was certainly some highly impressive, not to mention futuristic kit on offer. Of course, the purpose of attending such events is to develop business relationships and find out about new business opportunities, as well as see first hand what colleagues in the oil/gas industry have to offer.

I was also particularly interested in what UKTI had to say about the current market in Kazakhstan. At their Market Briefing,it was encouraging to hear that there are still plenty of opportunities for UK businesses in the oil and gas sector. There was also a clear message that if you want to undertake business in Kazakhstan, you need a local partner. A network of contacts on the ground is key to successfully exporting to Kazakhstan, even better if there’s experience of working in the country and good local knowledge.

Good job Kazopp offers all of this, having a team that have experience of the market since the mid 1990’s! It was great to come away knowing we are ahead of the game, especially having seen a whole range of fantastic British innovation, ripe for export to global markets on show.
